[ACCIDENT] Watch the Rescue of a C8 Corvette After a Four-Post Lift Fails at Carlisle - Corvette: Sales, News & Lifestyle
We heard about this during our visit to Corvettes at Carlisle last week, and now we finally got some video to share of the incident. Apparently, at one of the installer tents, a four-post lift had a cable failure, and it buckled with a Rapid Blue C8 Corvette stuck on it.
Having seen lift failures happen before, the solution was to call in a flat-bed wrecker who positioned the rollback carefully to allow the Corvette to be backed off of the lift and onto the wrecker.
We originally believed it was due to the lift being set up on the grass, but Dan says in the comments it was installed on a concrete pad with the broken cable being the culprit, and the video does show that. But we can also see that the lift was just sitting on the concrete pad and not bolted down which may have added to the instability. Others in the comments are also chiming in about the importance of the safety latches.
We’d say that 99% of attendees at Corvettes at Carlisle who participated in an install on their rides had a flawless experience, but when an incident happens like this, it sort of gives us pause if we would want our Corvette on an unsecured lift. Before having an install done at a show, it may be a good idea to discuss the installer’s safety features and what would happen should your car get damaged in a lift failure.
Once again, kudos to those involved with the successful rescue of this C8 Corvette Stingray!
