AAA to give impaired Floridians a lift for free this weekend
FLORIDA — AAA has activated its Tow to Go program throughout Florida for Memorial Day weekend to help ensure a safe ride for impaired Floridians and their vehicles.
When contacted at 855-286-9246, the Auto Club Group will send a tow truck to transport drivers and their vehicles to a safe location within a 10-mile radius for free. The program is not limited to AAA members.
The program will be operational from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 30.
"By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications," AAA — The Auto Club spokesperson Mark Jenkins said. "However, we remind people to treat Tow to Go as a last resort. Instead, make advanced plans for a safe ride home because you do not want to be remembered on Memorial Day as the person who made the fatal mistake of driving impaired."
Since the program started 25 years ago, AAA says more than 25.000 impaired drivers have been kept off roadways.
In some rural areas or during severe weather conditions, Tow to Go might not be available, AAA said.
For people outside of Florida, Tow to Go is also available in Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, in the Denver, Colo., area, and in the Fort Wayne/South Bend, Ind., area.
